The Baraboo Lions Sight Committee has just completed another year of
photoscreening children ages 1 through 6. Screening was done in 10
different locations for a total of 317 children.
Photoscreening allows us to look for vision problems that lead to amblyopia
(lazy eye), a leading cause of vision loss in children who are very young
and those who are able to take an active role in traditional screening
methods. The earlier children's vision problems are detected, the better
the expected outcome of treatment may be. Also, there is more suggestion
that parents take referrals based on photoscreening more seriously than
with other methods. The parents of any child this year that are to be
referred to see an optometrist will be contacted by Duane Hegna or Norm
Brickl.
